Checking For Essential Camping Equipment

It is easy to get carried away at the prospect of camping and simply throw a tent and sleeping bag into the car and head off.  But some items are a necessity to ensure a safe and happy camping trip. Before going on a camping trip please see the basic checklist of things that need to be carried out.

Camping is one of those activities where it’s easy to forget something.  If you are staying in an organised campsite, then this is not the end of the world, for there may be a shop that you can buy a couple of items from, but if you are in the middle of nowhere, then this can be a real pain. The checklist will help to ensure a hassle free trip; use it particularly if your not used to camping to find out the things you need to take.

Tents: This may seem obvious, but you need to take a tent that fits your needs. Before you travel you should check to see whether your tent is fit for purpose. If neccessary you can replace it rather than get to the campsite to find out that your tent that once had a tiny tear has now developed into a gaping hole because you didn’t mend it, or to find out it is now no longer waterproof.

Sleeping Bags: A seasonal sleeping bag should always be taken. A lightweight sleeping bag is simply no good when camping in the winter. In the event of your trip being a cold one and since it’s easier to get cold rather than warm, you should take two sleeping bags.

Camping Mattress:  People often think about a camping mattress in terms of comfort and it is true that a good camping mattress can help you get a good nights sleep, since it will help soften the ground below. To keep from getting cold and to provide another barrier between you and any creepy crawlies, invest in a good mattress.

Water: Becoming dehydrated can be a problem so always ensure you take enough water.Even in winter this is important, stock up on water always.

Torch: The wind up battery free torches are the best so always ensure you carry one with you.  You never know when you will need it, so having it with you at lal times is a must – otherwise you can never find it!

Camping Stove: Before you go on your travels check that the stove works and that you have fuel for it, otherwise you could have a hungry trip.

Coolbox: In summer an insulated coolbox is essential to ensure that food lasts longer.  Make sure that the coolbox has no rips or tears before you set off: if it does, then replace it.

Swiss Army Knife: Always take a swiss army knife (or something similar) with you as it will come in very handy as an opening device.

Food: Take some food with you even if you are planning on eating out.  Then if you can’t find anywhere to eat at least you will have something to stave off the hunger pangs!
